Byron is Dead

Byron is Dead

Byron is dead. A guy who I just saw the other day driving his minivan past my house to theirs. A man who I saw doing yard work just the other day. I waved to him and he waved back. I’d see him sitting on his bench on their front porch. He’d call out, “How ya doin?” And I’d answer. “Fine.” His family lives kitty-corner to mine on the street.

He’s gone. Just like that.

I got a phone call this morning at about 8 and I didn’t recognize the voice. She said she was Charlotte’s sister. Charlotte was Byron’s wife. She said she was calling to let us know. Shocked, I asked what happened? Byron was doing his nightly walk for excerise. No indication anything was wrong and he just collapsed, dead. Just like that.

Oh, this is sad. He was a nice guy and his family is great. Their daughter was my wife’s mommy helper for a couple of years when we had our triplets. She was a part of our family.

Before I got the call I was thinking how this was a tough week for me. I’ll just shut up now and count me blessings.

I’ll post happier things tomorrow.
